Natural Landscapes in Colour

The image is of a small bridge and the river running under it. It was created using pastels. Looking at the image there have been different colours used and some of them mixed together such as the shadows in the water green and blue have been mixed. The bridge has had different colours and the bridge can be seen clearly because of the layers of colours. Also there is distinct colour between the tree next to the bridge and the trees in the background which have several different shades of green. The rule of third can be applied in the single tree is the focal point and the eye leads you across the bridge and along the waterline to give you an implied line.

Modern Architecture

This image is a 1 hour drawing of modern architecture. There is depth and volume in these images as the different values have been used. The shadows affect the surfaces on these buildings and some of it is subtle light. The main light source is coming from the right hand side and the values change on the curved building and get darker as light is being blocked from reaching the other side. There is also the subtle light that is giving the reflections in the windows on the curved building. All the buildings are different shape and these shapes have shadows cast onto them. The curved building is casting a shadow on the ground. The building in the middle ground is casting a shadow too but there is a lot of glass which is reflecting a lot of light to. This is a lot different from interiors as there is less light sources outdoors than in interiors. There are also different angles as the curved building has a long curve but the other buildings mostly have straight lines.

Classical Architecture

There is good composition in this interior and it is different to exteriors because of the lighting. There are more lights indoors and there is a light in the drawing. There is good composition and perspective because of the angle of the wall and banister. There is some foreshortening in the drawing at the window because it is further away. The main focal point is the pillar which is in the rule of thirds. Line has been used most straight lines and there are many right angles but nor many curved lines. There are different types of textures in the drawing from the top of the pillar, the stone wall and the window. There are many different angles because of the foreshortening. This was a 35 minute drawing of a classical interior.

Non Human Anatomy

Line has been used in this drawing and there is also some detail. The parrot has long and flowing feathers and there have been long stokes used. The parrot has a good pose as this is how it would sit and also there is the movement of the head. The face has some good detail as the part has mark on its face and there are some tonal values. There are some good angles drawn such as the curved beak, spine and also the almost 90 degree angle at on it wing. There are many convex curves at the bottom of the wing as this is where all the feathers can be seen separately. The tail also has long lines but there are mostly curved lines in the drawing of the parrot because of the pose.

Anatomy and Movement

These drawings are of the model in different dynamic poses. There is good posture in the first drawing and there is a curvature in the spine in all of the drawings. The model moves positions ever few minutes so the shape of the body has been drawn well. There is movement and the pose changes in each of the drawing, from the movement of the head, hips and arms. The feet static and the model moves the upper body. There is good dynamism as these are quick poses and there is some internal drawing. For the all the images the spine was drawn first and then the rest of the internal structure, even the angles of the shoulders and hips.

Balance, Weight and Dynamism

There is good posture shown by the model as he is supporting himself by holding the stool. The upper body weight is being supported by the legs and the arms as the model bends his spine. In the drawing the model can be seen to be bending his spine even though his back cannot be seen because of the creases on the abdominals and the of the distance between the pectorals and the groin is quite short. This is where foreshortening has been used in the drawing. There is also a good static pose by the model as he is bending his spine, looking down, and having his hands and feet facing outwards. Also a light is being shone on the model and there are different tonal values on the body. The use of black and white pastel gives the drawing a sense of depth but paper is also acting as a tonal value in between the black and the white. There is a sense of a closed form to this drawing as the model is contracting inwards as his upper body moves closer towards the stool.
